The partial government shutdown continues…the basis of which gravitates around issues related to border security and immigration policies. The Senate this week will vote on two legislative proposals designed to open the government: the first will be to fund a border wall, and the second to open the federal government until February 8. President Trump’s campaign promise to build a wall between Mexico and the United States continues to be the key to a breakthrough on passing a comprehensive federal budget. Both sides of the argument have presented their case.
President Trump’s recent national address on border security presents an opportunity to reiterate that PHCC will continue to work with legislators on programs in line with our position on immigration which supports:
- Expansion or creation of a viable guest worker program that will meet the needs of all sectors of our nation’s economy;
- Clear and sensible immigration laws establishing vigorous and efficient enforcement;
- Strengthening our national security through increased interior enforcement and border security; and
- An efficient employment verification system.
